Why Children?

More and more of our youth are leaving the church today; more than 50 percent according to Dr. Roger Dudley in Why Our Teenagers Leave the Church. The Barna Research Group discovered that by the time a person reaches 13 they have already formed their spiritual identity for the rest of their lives.

Dr. George Barna says in his book, Transforming Children Into Spiritual Champions,

“If you want to have a lasting influence upon the world, you must invest in people’s lives; and if you want to maximize that investment, then you must invest in those people while they are young.” (p.42)

At these young developmental stages, a parent has the most influence on a child.

• According to a 1997 study by the Barna Research group, 78% of youth indicated that their parents had more influence on their decision-making than anyone else.
• Another study done by the Barna Research Group in 2004 showed that among Christians who embraced Christ before their teen years, 50% were led to Christ by their parents.

Out of the heart are the ‘issues of life’ (Prov.4:23); and the heart of the community, of the church, and of the nation is the household.
